Blockbuster picture: Mount Rushmore national memorial and Crazy Horse memorial

The Mount Rushmore National Memorial is a sculpture carved into the granite face of Mount Rushmore, South Dakota. It was sculpted by Gutson Borglum and his son in order to promote tourism in the region. The construction began in 1927 and the presidents' faces were completed between 1934 and 1939.

The Crazy Horse Memorial is a mountain monument complex that is under construction in the Black Hills, in South Dakota as well. The monument is being carved out of Thunderheard Mountain, a mountain which is considered sacred by some Indians.
